UN Millennium Development Goals
In September 2000, at the Millennium Summit, the 192 UN member states set themselves
a challenge: to achieve a better world for everyone by the year 2015.
To achieve this, 8 goals were set in which they made the commitment to protect fundamental human rights as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the Millennium Declaration of the United Nations.
And to ensure that this was not just a statement of good intentions, Koffi Annan said: “It will not be the United Nations that achieve the Millennium Development Goals. They must be achieved in each country through the joint efforts of the government and the people”
